“An image is a bridge between evoked emotion and conscious knowledge; words are the cables that hold up the bridge. Images are more direct, more immediate than words, and closer to the unconscious. Picture language precedes thinking in words; the metaphorical mind precedes analytical consciousness.”
-Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, by Gloria Anzaldua
What are we doing this time?
In Prompt 1, we came up with a symbol to represent the air. In Prompt 2, we imagined what it’s like for that symbol to move in and out of our homes. Now, with Prompt 3, we’re going to see how our symbol works with our own bodies.
Sit down and take a deep breath in. Try to feel your breath all the way down in your belly. Keep doing this while you imagine your symbol. As your breath moves in and out, what is your symbol doing? How does your symbol connect the inside of your body to your surroundings? Is it similar to how your symbol connects the inside of your house to the outside, or is it completely different? How does it feel? Is it comforting, or uncomfortable? What is it like to imagine your insides connected to your outsides?
When you feel ready, think about how you would share this experience with other people creatively. Would you like to write about it, or draw it, or do a craft, or something else?
Just like last before, either leave a comment here or post a submission on tumblr to share your experience.
I felt like words weren't the right choice for this prompt, so I'm just going to link to my drawing: https://imgur.com/a/wgTZXYa
